Documents to prepare

Passport valid for at least 12 more months (photo page)
Highest academic certificate — notarised copy, translated into English or Chinese
Academic transcripts for all years
Passport photo on a white background
Two recommendation letters from professors or supervisors (postgraduate)
Study plan or research proposal — typically 800 to 1,500 words
Foreigner Physical Examination Form, completed at a hospital
Non-criminal record certificate from your police service
HSK certificate, or IELTS / TOEFL / medium-of-instruction letter
CV, plus any awards, publications or work certificates

Intake timeline

March intake

Mainly language, foundation and non-degree programs, plus some degree programs.

Applications open: around 1 October
Applications close: around 28 February
Offers and JW202: December – February
Visa and travel: January – February
Classes begin: late February / March

September intake

The main degree intake, and the cycle most scholarships follow.

Applications open: November – December
University (Type B) deadlines: December – March
Embassy (Type A) deadlines: January – early March
Scholarship results: June – August
Classes begin: early September

AFTER THE OFFER

Student visa, step by step

X1 visa for study longer than 180 days; X2 visa for shorter programs.
You apply at the Chinese embassy, consulate or visa centre in your own country.
Bring the original admission notice, the JW202 or JW201 form, your passport, the visa form and photos.
Some countries add an interview, a bank statement or a police certificate — we brief you on yours.
After arriving on an X1, you convert it into a residence permit within 30 days with your university’s help.
